                Understanding DNS records

What do A, MX, TXT and CAA DNS records do?

A records map a hostname to an IPv4 address; AAAA records map it to an IPv6 address. MX records identify mail servers and their priority. TXT records carry text used for purposes such as domain verification, SPF and DMARC. CAA records specify which certificate authorities may issue certificates for a domain.
